Welcome to the lure builders blog. Here you can follow what is going on at here at Piketrapz®.

The original Generic Jerk

No, this is not THE original generic. But I am retiring THE original generic jerk, after what is most likely 100+ pike and some really nice memories I cannot risk loosing it any more and realize that I realized I stopped fishing it. So, I made a replacement using the original design, while doing so I made a few extras for you.

If you don’t know the Generic model you can find out more about it here on the project page. These are 16cm slow sink, the weight is between 101-105g.

These are now sold out.

A Generic Jerk

This is a slow sink generic 16cm 105g. You can read more about the Generic model on the project page.

A new Perch model

This is a new full size Perch model prototype based on the Generic. Being based on the Generic the bait action is very similar, the little hump on its back gives this one a bit more side to side action but it can still be fished as a jerk bait. These are 16cm and 110g slow sink.

Being prototypes these have  passed the swim test but I have not fished this model extensively like my other models. Instead you have an opportunity to take part in the test fishing of this new model. There are two of these, the only difference is the color. One is my standard perch color while the other is a “hot perch” version with a tangerine belly.

A smaller Perch prototype

This is the result of crossing the Perch project with the ambition to create a series of smaller size baits. A Perch at 79g and 14cm, slow sinking.

Being a prototype it has passed the swim test but I have not fished this model extensively like my other models. Instead you have an opportunity to take part in the test fishing of this new model. There are only two of these, I will be testing the other one.

Chartreuse Generic prototype for sale

Hand made chartreuse Generic pike bait

I have seen quite an interest in purchasing prototypes from you readers, so I have decided to try to make a few extras when I try new things. If these prototypes turn out well I will make some of the extras available here.

This is one of the extra prototypes from the last batch. A chartreuse generic with some extra bling and a rattle chamber. This is a slow sink at 104g and 16 cm.

Test fishing Generic prototypes

Testing Piketrapz baits

We are in the beginning of Spring season with a few more weeks until the spawning season begins and fishing calms down for a few months. The pike is still feeding getting ready for the spawning season and are in top condition. This is an excellent time to get some fishing in and test some new baits. I am also testing a new mounting position for the gopro to take some fishy pictures, that worked out quite well.

A chartreuse Generic

To learn new things one have to try new things, this time I have been trying out attractor baits with rattles and glitter finish in quite bright colors. The glitter finish is a bit difficult to show in a picture, I will try filming these later. This one is a chartreuse glitter with a red belly.

Chartreuse is a big time winter color here which really works when fly fishing and glitter soft baits are equally successful every late fall season, so why not try it on a jerk bait.

A Generic in glitter chartreuse, turquoise and red

This one is a variation on the chartreuse adding some turquoise and red rover a slightly darker base. This makes the bait quite a bit darker. I can’t really figure out a name for this color it is something like a tomato collides with a frosty kiwi. It is already a favorite color and it catches fish.

A failed attempt at a motor oil burbot

This one is actually a compete failure that is somewhat rescued. The motor oil color reacted with the epoxy and caused a thousand fish eyes. I somewhat rescued this one adding a two more epoxy coats to make it fishable. So, why show this bait? because this one catches fish. I gave one of these to my buddy and kept one for myself, both caught pike within seconds of hitting the water for the first time. Soon, there will be more attempts at this motor oil color.

Thats all for this time, this easter I will be finishing some more generics, and some new stuff.

Piketrapz is on twitter

Just a short note this time, I have created a twitter profile for piketrapz. I will use it to announce bait releases and share random piktrapz stuff, just like any other twitter user, well less spam I hope. Enjoy.

A Generic Perch

A Generic in a Perch costume

Here is a Generic in a Perch costume. This one is a slow sink that weighs in at 104g without hooks, that translates to about 109g with a size 2.0 treble under the belly and a size 1.0 tail hook using eagle claw 374 hooks. You can read more about the Generic model a the project page here.

The first Piketrapz Big Generic

The first Piketrapz Big Generics

This is the first Piketrapz Big Generic for sale. I consider the Big Generic model to be finished now, you can read more about the Big Generic project here. This one is a slow sink Roach 19cm long and about 112g.

Compared to the later prototypes this one is slightly thinner. The main reason for making the bait thinner is to shave of some weight making it easier to fish.

The first jack pike for sale

A first Jack Pike for sale

The Jack Pike project is reaching a point where I can finally make some baits available, this is he first one for sale. This is the smaller version based on the Generic. Compared to the Generic this one is a bit thinner and weighted to glide a bit wider. This one is about 19 cm and weighs in at about 110g. The bait is near perfect suspending in fresh water.

I am the creator of Piketrapz®. I do most of my fishing in my home waters in Blekinge, Sweden. These are brackish waters and most days of the season crystal clear. I have been fishing here for as long as can remember, most days fishing for Pike. I built my first baits many years ago. Over the years building baits has become a growing hobby in itself just as rewarding as fishing. Piketrapz® is my way of sharing my baits with you.
